Session 1: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Title: Overview, Renewing Your Love of Medicine Speaker: Cathryn Harbor, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: Describe the physiologic mechanisms underlying illness: free radical damage, uncontrolled inflammation, nutrient excess, nutrient deficiency, toxins, and hormone imbalances. Appreciate how the above processes interact to influence health. Session 2: 9:00-10:00 a.m. Title: Cardiovascular Illness: Understanding and Addressing Endothelial Dysfunction. Speaker: Teresa Holler, PA-C: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe endothelial dysfunction’s pivotal role in the physiology and pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. · Describe the role of elevated cholesterol, oxidized LDL, and increased inflammation in creating endothelial dysfunction. · Find and cite the literature supporting specific dietary and lifestyle interventions in reversing heart disease. Session 3: 10:15-11:15 a.m. Title: New Approaches to Diagnosing Heart Disease Speaker: Teresa Holler, PA-C At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe the importance of diastolic dysfunction in cardiovascular disease. · Appropriately order tests to evaluate diastolic dysfunction. · Describe the new lab markers for assessing cardiovascular risk: LP2, waist circumference, VAP testing, fasting insulin, Reynold’s number, and ADMA. Session 4: 11:15 a.m. - 12:15p.m. Title: Statins and Beyond Speaker: Teresa Holler, PA-C: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe the controversies surrounding treating to current goals. · Know how to help patients avoid side effects if they must be on statins and remain healthy if the refuse or cannot tolerate statins. Session 5: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Title: Avoiding common pitfalls when treating HTN Speaker: Teresa Holler, PA-C At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe nutrient interactions with common blood pressure medicines. · Describe dietary interventions, nutrients and herbs that have been shown to lower blood pressure with minimal side effects. Session 6: 2:30-3:30 p.m. Title: Understanding the Roots of digestive diseases Speaker: Cathryn Harbor, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe the role of antibiotics, poor diet, food allergies and common mediations in creating digestive disorders. · Describe the impact of an inflamed digestive system on the body: the gut-brain, gut skin and gut joint interaction. Session 7: 3:45- 4:45 p.m. Title: Heal the Gut Speaker: Cathryn Harbor, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe a 4 step approach to help patients overcome digestive problems: Removing pathogens, replacing deficient digestive enzymes, repairing the lining of the diseased gut, use of probiotics. Session 8: 4:45 - 5:45 p.m. Title: The Brain on Fire Speaker: Cathryn Harbor, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Discuss the underlying mechanisms of degenerative neurologic disorders: inflammation and oxidative stress. · Discuss interventions to improve cognitive function patients with in Alzheimer’s Disease. · Discuss approaches to assess and lower inflammation in patients with MS.

Session 9: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Title: Beyond Steroids: Healing the Skin Speaker: Marion Owen, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe alternatives to using steroids on skin disorders. · Describe approaches to treating psoriasis, eczema and hives. · Describe the importance of ·vitamin D and controversies involving sun exposure, · Outline dietary recommendations that will help patients resolve skin problems. Session 10: 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Title: Dealing with Discomfort: Headaches, Restless Legs, and Arthritis Speaker: Marion Owen, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe the physiology underlying arthritis and restless leg syndrome. · Describe effective non pharmaceutical treatments for headaches, restless legs, and arthritis. Session 11: 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. Title: It is NOT all in their heads! Fibromyalgia, Hot Flashes, and PMS Speaker: Cathryn Harbor, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe treatments for specific issues related to women: helping patients recover from fibromyalgia, hormone imbalances, and PMS. Session 12: 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Title: Hot Sweet and Deadly: How Excess Insulin Undermines Health Speaker: Stephanie Fonda. PhD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe how elevated insulin creates a vicious health cycle culminating in obesity, heart disease, and premature aging. · Describe interventions that can reverse this process. |

Session 13: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Title: Diabetes 2008 Speaker: Stephanie Fonda. PhD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe why simply lowering blood sugar is not an adequate intervention. · Describe how drugs used to treat insulin resistance work so that you can choose the safest option for your patients. · Compare the various nutritional and dietary modifications used to address insulin resistance. Session 14: 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Title: Thyroid Issues Speaker: Marion Owen, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe the importance of iodine, T3 to T4 conversion, and anti thyroid antibodies in thyroid disease. · Describe new studies supporting the use of T3 in people with Thyroid disease and depression. · Explain approaches that work when the TSH is normal but the patient is symptomatic. Session 15: 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. Title: Stressed Out!!! Speaker: Marion Owen, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe how stress modifies the HPA axis, influencing the cardiovascular system, the thyroid, and ability to lose weight. · Describe interventions proven to lower stress levels. Session 16: 11:15a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Title: Sad and Sleepy, Worried and Weepy: Addressing depression anxiety and fatigue and insomnia. Speaker: Marion Owen, MD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe medications commonly used for depression, insomnia and anxiety, and the side effects of each. · Describe non pharmaceutical approaches that rebalance neurotransmitters through proper nutrients, specific stress reduction techniques and prescribed exercise. |

Session 18: 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Title: Detoxification Principles Speaker: Teresa Holler, PA-C At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe how medicines and foods are cleared from the body. · Describe the mechanisms underlying the interactions between drugs, nutrients, and supplements. · Describe Gilberts Disease as an example of impaired detoxification. Session 19: 10:15 - 11:15 p.m. Title: Weight loss that works Speaker: Stephanie Fonda. PhD At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to: · Describe recent scientific findings regarding weight loss. · Know how to give patients persuasive, easy and understandable instructions on what to eat.
